The Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (AIMS) invites post-secondary students in Atlantic Canada to submit an application for the 2014-15 AIMS on Campus Student Fellowship Programme, which begins in September 2014. AIMS on Campus is made possible through the generous support of the Lotte and John Hecht Memorial foundation (www.hecht.org).
AIMS is a Canadian non-profit, non-partisan think tank that provides a distinctive Atlantic Canadian perspective on economic, political, and social issues. The Institute sets the benchmark on public policy by drawing together the most innovative thinking available from some of the world’s foremost experts and applying that thinking to the challenges facing Canadians.
AIMS on Campus provides a platform for students to promote open, informed policy discussions across campuses in the region. There are three components to the student fellowship: 1) contributing to the Institute’s student blog, Free Exchange (www.aimsoncampus.ca); 2) planning and hosting campus events, such as guest speakers and policy debates; and 3) providing research assistance to AIMS staff, research fellows, and affiliated authors on various projects. Former student fellows published their works in regional media outlets, formed campus societies, and participated in events throughout Canada with AIMS-affiliated organizations. In addition, they had the opportunity to network with various academics and professionals at AIMS events.
Ideal candidates will have a passion for public policy and some understanding of the economic, political, and social issues facing Canadians. In recognition of their hard work, student fellows will receive a $1,000 stipend, and the Institute provides financial support for all AIMS on Campus-related events. Note: with the exception of events, the student fellowship is virtual and relocation is not required.
The benefits include:
o Join a network of students, academics, and professionals from across the country and connect with AIMS staff, research fellows, and speakers
o Gain access to AIMS research and some of Canada’s leading academics, experts, and policymakers
o Learn about the most pressing economic, political, and social issues facing Canadians
o Publish your work on the AIMS on Campus student fellow blog, Free Exchange
